The Gingerbread Man was quite mischievous this year and we had a tough time finding him!  Luckily we found him and he was delicious!!!  Along with eating our Gingerbread Man, the children decorated their own felt Gingerbread  Man or Woman to hang on our bulletin boards.

We will have our traditional Polar Express pajama day.  The children will wear their nightgowns, pajamas, slippers and robes to school on Wednesday, December 19th.  We will not be going outside for recess on this day.  We will stay inside and read the story The Polar Express, and drink hot chocolate.  Yea!

Happy News and Happy Thanksgiving!!

We have had a very successful beginning to our school year and we are so pleased to announce that our recent assessments have shown growth in all areas of development.  We are providing individualized instruction based on each child’s needs.  This allows us to provide enriched and advanced learning in addition to presenting the essential material as stated in the Pre-K curriculum guidelines.
All children will be bringing home a reader this week called "Turkey". Please let your child read it to you.  They are very excited about being beginning readers.  You may keep this reader at home.
Important dates:
Nov. 20             Zero the Hero day 60
Nov. 21-23       Thanksgiving break
Dec. 7               Zero the Hero day 70

Letters and Words We have Learned!

We have just finished teaching the correct handwriting formation, letter name and letter sound for the following letters: F, E, D,P, B,R, N and M.  In addition we have reviewed the sight words I, is, see, can, the, a  and look. These words are currently in alphabet books that are in each child’s “reader’s workshop folder”. We will send these books home when your child has read it several times in small group.  Please encourage your child to point to each word as he/she reads it and look for the sight words that have been taught. The letter song books that we send home weekly are intended to be a fun way to sing and read with your child.  They are not used for reading instruction.

The Mother Goose play went off without a hitch.  The children were so excited and did a fabulous job.  I want to thank each of you for your support and effort with your child’s costume.  They were too cute!  Thanks again for the beautiful flowers.

We will be going on a field trip to the Oil Ranch on Tuesday, October 30th.  We are asking that your child wear their MDE or Zero the Hero t-shirt with shorts/jeans and tennis shoes.  Please send their lunch in a plastic ziplock bag.  We will throw away all lunch items at the ranch, so do not send lunch boxes or plastic containers that need to be returned.  :-)

Apples, Letters, Important October Dates

Our unit on apples was a big success!  The children really enjoyed the experience, and they looked adorable in their Johnny Appleseed hat.  During this study of apples, your child has learned about the seasons of the apple tree, parts of the apple, new vocabulary words (blossom, core, stem, flesh, skin), They also made a graph all of the apples brought in by the children.  We had the most red apples, and the fewest were green.  The children also tasted green, and red apples and determined the class favorite.
We will be going on a field trip to the Oil Ranch on Tuesday, October 30th.  We are asking that your child wear his/her MDE or Zero the Hero t-shirt with shorts/jeans and tennis shoes.  Please send their lunch in a plastic ziplock bag.  We will throw away all lunch items at the ranch, so do not send lunch boxes or plastic containers that need to be returned.  If you would like to chaperone this event, please send an email to let me know.  We will leave the school at 9:00 and return at 1:30.
The letters and sounds we have taught are E, F, D, and P .  Have you heard your child using the vocabulary words horizontal and vertical?
The  Mother Goose Play is just around the corner.  Now is a perfect time to begin looking for a simple costume.  If you are having trouble finding one, let me know.

Good Afternoon!
Please note that I have stapled a social development form into your child’s white folder. I have explained to the class that I will be carefully watching for great Pre K behavior!  If there is something they need to improve; they will have an “X” on their chart and if they are doing well; they will have a green mark.  I hope you can talk to your children this weekend about the chart and help them understand what the teachers at MDE are looking for.  Please use this as a learning experience and work on these areas at home with your child.  We want school to be a positive experience. It will remain in your child’s folder for the first 9 week grading period . Please do not remove it.  There is a box at the bottom for your weekly signature. If you have any brief comments, please add them in the comment section. If you have a lengthy message for me, just send me an email and we can discuss it.
I have also taken pictures of your child on the first day of school.  It will be the first page in their PK memory book.  I will send a group picture soon.
Thank you and enjoy your weekend!  We have a wonderful class!!

August News

Dear Parents,
Congratulations on a successful start to the year!  Your children are adjusting well to the new routines and schedules.  We have been learning about how special your children are and all about your families.
Our first Zero the Hero day will be on Monday, Sept. 10th.  We won’t have the t-shirts yet, but we will celebrate with ice cream.  If you have not sent in $8.00 for your child to have ice cream this year, please do so ASAP.  Checks should be made out to MDE PTA.

Symbaloo - A work in Progress

Several people have asked me about Symbaloo, so I thought I would share what I have found so far.  It changes almost daily as I find new games or songs OR just refine what I have already discovered.
Have a look and see if you can use it, too!
